Setup guide

NBG delivers the payment through Simplify, and the plugin places it at checkout without the customer getting lost halfway. When the card form stays inside the checkout page, customers finish the purchase more often and the shop loses fewer abandoned carts. It is aimed at shops with an approved Simplify merchant account that also want the option of redirecting to the bank page.

  1. 1

Get the two keys after the account is approved

Simplify issues a public and a private key after the merchant account is approved. The public one is used on the page the customer sees and the private one stays on the server, never exposed to a visitor. If the account is still under review, the test keys work normally but no payment is real. Keep the production keys separate from the test keys, because the wrong pair is the most common accident in this integration.

  2. 2

Enter the keys and choose an inline form or the bank page

In the settings enter the public and the private key and enable the payment method. Choose whether the card form appears inside the checkout page or the customer is taken to the bank page. The form inside the checkout keeps the customer in the shop and usually gives a better completion rate, but it depends on the privacy settings of their device. Leave the redirect to the bank page on as a fallback at first, so no customer is left without a way to pay.

  3. 3

Test from a real phone first

Open the checkout from a real phone and not from a desktop preview, because that is where problems with privacy settings and with a form that does not fit the screen show up. Pay with your own card and then check from the order that the status changed and the stock went down. Also test a decline, to see that the customer stays on the checkout page with a clear message and not on a blank page after the failure.

  4. 4

Check what happens when the customer closes the window

Start a payment and close the window before finishing it. Then open the admin and see whether the order stayed in pending payment or the plugin was updated by the bank and closed it. This scenario creates most of the arguments with customers, because the customer believes they paid and the shop sees an order without payment. If the status is not updated, make it a rule to check the pending orders in the NBG environment every morning.

  5. 5

Go live and test again with a small amount

Enter the production keys, turn test mode off and make a small purchase with your own card. Then check three things: that the order closed on its own, that the customer received the order email and that the transaction appears in your account. If one of the three is missing, the problem is usually in the title or in the method configuration and not in the keys, so do not touch them for no reason.

Common mistakes

  • The wrong key pair, test instead of production. Payments look successful in the shop and are never settled.
  • A private key handed to a plugin or to a service on the page. It is exposed to visitors and puts every transaction at risk.
  • Testing in a desktop preview only. On a phone the form does not load and the shop loses half its purchases without knowing.
  • Orders in pending payment that are never checked. The customer paid, the shop does not know and the order never ships.
